Happy 2025! With Chinese New Year just around the corner, the holiday spirit is still in the air.
As we ease into the new year, I couldn’t resist sharing an unforgettable experience I had during my recent trip to Japan in December. While lounge reviews have become a staple here (let’s be honest, Hong Kong lounges are unmatched), this time, I’m bringing you something a little different—a review of the Intervals Sky Bar at Hong Kong International Airport.
Opened in early 2024 to mark the Plaza Premium Group’s 25th anniversary, Intervals Sky Bar introduces a refreshing new concept to the world of airport hospitality.
Operated by the Plaza Premium Group—renowned for its exceptional lounges across the globe, including my personal favorite, the Plaza Premium First lounge at KLIA Terminal 1—this bar takes their signature excellence and elevates it with a unique twist.
Location and First Impressions
The Intervals Sky Bar is perched on the iconic Sky Bridge, which connects the Satellite Terminal to the main terminal at Hong Kong International Airport.
This location is particularly convenient for passengers departing from Gates 13-22, often home to narrow-body aircraft like Cathay Pacific’s sleek A321neo. If you’re headed this way, just follow the clear signage directing you to the satellite gates—it’s hard to miss.
That said, while the signage was plentiful and helpful, I couldn’t help but feel a bit annoyed by the sheer number of escalators needed to reach the bar. For travelers with heavy carry-ons or tight layovers, this might feel a bit tedious.
Once you step onto the Sky Bridge itself, any irritation melts away. The panoramic views are breathtaking, offering a unique vantage point over the airport’s expansive runway and surrounding landscape.
Before heading to the bar, take a moment to admire the view—it’s worth the pause. For the brave-hearted, the bridge also features transparent glass walkways, giving the thrilling illusion of floating in mid-air. It’s an experience you won’t want to rush through.
Just a quick U-turn from the main walkway of the bridge, and you’ll spot the entrance to Intervals Sky Bar. Its sleek, modern design perfectly complements the cutting-edge aesthetic of the Sky Bridge, setting the tone for the experience ahead.
A Stylish Welcome and Unique Offerings
Stepping into the Intervals Sky Bar, I was immediately struck by the impressive bar counter that extends seamlessly from the entrance to the far corner.
It’s a design masterpiece that commands attention, with rows of elegantly displayed liquor bottles that act as a visual centerpiece. Adding to the warm welcome, the bartenders greeted me with friendly smiles and genuine enthusiasm—a perfect start to the experience.
As a bonus, I happened to visit in December during a promotional collaboration with Dior. The luxurious branding was prominently featured throughout the space, adding a touch of sophistication to the already stylish setting. You’ll spot plenty of these collaborations in the photos below!
For those who prefer classic drinks, such as a Whiskey Sour, or simply enjoy a good beer, the bar offers several unique options on tap.
Admittedly, I didn’t recognize the beer brands, but as someone who isn’t much of a beer enthusiast, I found it refreshing to see selections beyond the usual suspects like Carlsberg or Heineken. It’s always nice to encounter something unexpected and distinct from the typical lounge fare.
Quirky Highlights and a Thoughtful Menu Concept
One of the more whimsical features of the bar is located at the far end—a rotating chair that bears an uncanny resemblance to a giant Dyson hairdryer (yes, really).
This quirky addition is a hotspot for photo opportunities, and for good reason. The stunning backdrop of planes in motion, including a Star Alliance livery and a Japan Airlines aircraft, makes for an Instagram-worthy moment you’ll want to capture.
But what truly sets Intervals Sky Bar apart is its innovative menu concept. Drinks are categorized based on how much time you have before your flight—15 minutes, 30 minutes, or 45 minutes.
This clever approach not only helps time-conscious travelers plan their visit but also ensures that each drink menu aligns with the time required to craft the cocktails.
As someone who’s dabbled in bar hopping, I’ve encountered drinks that took up to 30 minutes to prepare, often resulting in a spectacular final product. While that’s a treat in itself, it’s not always practical for a busy traveler. The time-focused menus at Intervals strike the perfect balance, reducing stress for both guests and bartenders. It’s an innovative idea that enhances the overall experience—practical, yet brilliant.
Final Thoughts
The Intervals Sky Bar is a refreshing addition to the airport experience, offering a unique twist that sets it apart from traditional lounges.
Access is available to members of Priority Pass, DragonPass, and LoungeKey, and I was able to enter using my DragonPass membership, which comes with my UOB Visa Infinite credit card.
While I was limited to a specific menu of choices due to the membership type, it didn’t detract from the overall appeal of the bar.
Unfortunately, I didn’t have time to fully indulge or snap photos of my drinks, but I’m already planning my next visit—this time, with enough time to enjoy a cocktail (or two) and fully immerse myself in the experience!
As a young professional, I appreciate the convenience and comfort of airport lounges, but Intervals Sky Bar offers something different—a break from the usual lounge fare and a chance to enjoy a more vibrant and dynamic atmosphere.
Whether you’re traveling solo or with a companion, this concept is perfect for those seeking variety and a touch of sophistication before boarding.
I can only hope that similar concepts make their way to airports closer to home, like Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, or even London. Until then, Intervals Sky Bar remains a standout destination for those passing through Hong Kong International Airport—a must-visit for anyone seeking a truly unique airport experience.
